Last week, the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Commerce published a guide focusing on influencer marketing, one of the most current and popular methods of marketing. The guide aims to align influencer marketing with consumer law and advertising law rules and principles adopted in the internal legislation.
In the guide, the term "Influencer" is referred to as "Social Media Influencer," and the different marketing methods applied by these individuals on social media platforms are thoroughly examined and disciplined within the guide's content.
While a similar regulation was prepared in our country in May 2021, a regulation in the United Kingdom by the Advertising Standards Authority, the public advertising authority, was published one and a half years ago in October 2019. Despite being late in this regard, it should be considered as a very positive development that responds to the need in terms of content.
